For Our Children...

Our children are losing (and most have already lost) the inspiring view of a dark night sky.
For many years now, CfDS member Darren Baskill has been giving school groups tours of the skies from the University of Leicester observatories. Unfortunately, this outdoor activity appears doomed - the Cub Scouts are dropping outdoor observing for the Stargazer badge; the levels of light pollution are ruining their view. They now recommend that observing be carried out only for those groups that are able to get "away from artificial, man-made lights".

The early plans for the National Space Centre also included an observatory on the roof. The idea was dropped, due to the level of light pollution around the site.
